Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons)

Engineer software that scales.
Build systems that last.

Every app you use, every platform you rely on, every digital service you trust was built by software engineers. It is the most in-demand technical discipline in the world, and the gap between the number of qualified engineers needed and the talent available is widening every year. This degree takes you through the full software development lifecycle — from architecture and programming through to testing, quality assurance, DevOps, and mobile engineering — with an AI-native approach that prepares you for the way software is actually built today.

The digital world runs on systems built by software engineers.

Why This Programme Matters

The Reality

  • Malaysia’s MyDIGITAL blueprint targets 500,000 digital economy jobs and the development of 20,000 software-skilled professionals by 2025 — demand that continues to outpace the graduate pipeline
  • The global software engineering market is projected to grow at 11.5% CAGR through 2030, with mobile, cloud, and AI-driven development driving the next wave of demand
  • DevOps adoption has grown by over 300% in Malaysian enterprises in the last three years, creating immediate demand for graduates who understand the full development and operations lifecycle
  • Software engineers in Malaysia with specialisations in mobile, cloud, or AI command some of the strongest starting packages available to any technology graduate

The Education

This is not a generic computing degree. Software Engineering as a discipline has specific rigour — formal methods, software requirements engineering, testing and quality assurance, service-oriented architecture, and project management are all dedicated modules. The curriculum is built around the full software development lifecycle, ensuring graduates understand not just how to write code but how to design, deliver, test, and maintain systems that work at scale.

Mobile engineering is a particular strength of this programme. Mobile Software Engineering, Mobile Systems, Mobile Device Programming, and Mobile Electronic Commerce are all dedicated modules — giving graduates a depth of mobile development expertise that most software engineering degrees do not offer.

The AI-Native Learning Experience

AI has fundamentally changed how software is designed, written, tested, and deployed. GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted code review, automated testing frameworks, and intelligent DevOps pipelines are already standard in leading engineering teams. This programme integrates AI tools throughout the learning experience so graduates arrive at the workplace already working the way the industry expects.

  • AI-Integrated Development Practice

AI-assisted coding tools, automated testing platforms, and intelligent development environments are embedded into coursework from Year 1, not introduced as optional extras.

  • DevOps and CI/CD Pipeline Training

The programme integrates modern DevOps practices, bridging the gap between development and operations and giving graduates competency in the full deployment lifecycle.

  • Coursera for Campus Access

Students earn global microcredentials from IBM, Google, AWS, and Meta alongside their degree.

  • Industry-Grade Labs

Purpose-built software engineering labs with the tools and platforms used by working engineers, accessible throughout the programme.

  • UNIMY software engineering students working in lab

Industry Projects & Certifications

Real projects. Recognised credentials. Career advantage.

Students gain industry exposure throughout the programme through UNIMY’s active technology partnerships and the Industrial Workshop in Year 2 that connects classroom learning directly to working engineering environments. UNIMY’s Tech Talk series has featured sessions from Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Malaysia, and MDEC, connecting students with working engineers and building professional networks before graduation.
