Future Careers
Advanced expertise. Exceptional opportunities.
A Master’s degree in Computing is one of the most versatile and valued postgraduate qualifications in Malaysia’s technology sector. It signals not just technical depth but the ability to think independently, conduct rigorous research, and solve problems that do not yet have established solutions. In a market where 59% of technology employers are increasing headcount and demand for AI and data expertise is growing at 103% year-on-year, graduates with postgraduate research credentials operate at the top of the hiring pool. The part-time option makes this programme equally accessible to working professionals who want to advance their careers without stepping away from them.

Why This Programme Matters
The Reality
- Malaysia’s MyDIGITAL blueprint targets 500,000 digital economy jobs and 30,000 data professionals — demand that postgraduate research talent is uniquely positioned to fill at the senior level
- PwC’s 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer reports 103% year-on-year growth in AI and data talent demand — the fastest-growing segment of the technology job market
- Less than 5% of Malaysia’s technology workforce holds a postgraduate qualification, making Master’s graduates rare and highly competitive in the hiring market
- The global AI market is projected to reach USD 1.85 trillion by 2030, creating sustained demand for professionals with research-level depth in intelligent systems
The Education
The Master in Computing is research-based by design. Rather than following a fixed set of taught modules, you develop deep expertise in a chosen area of computing through guided independent research. This is the approach that produces professionals who do not just execute — they innovate.
You will be supervised by experienced academics and active researchers across AI, cybersecurity, data science, IoT, and software engineering. Your research is anchored in UNIMY’s specialised computing focus, with direct access to industry partnerships and real-world data environments that give your work genuine applicability beyond the university.
Research Focus Areas
- AI and Intelligent Systems
- Cybersecurity and Digital Defence
- Data Science and Big Data Analytics

Our graduates are among the most sought-after technology professionals in Malaysia and the region.
The Master in Computing opens doors that are simply not available to undergraduate graduates — in research institutes, technology leadership roles, government advisory positions, and high-growth startups.
At the senior level, postgraduate research credentials are either expected or carry decisive weight. UNIMY graduates enter this market from an institution that specialises entirely in computing and engineering.
Supervisors and partners are active in the same industries our graduates move into — creating a direct line between your research and the practitioners shaping its real-world application.
