Future Careers
Advanced expertise. Exceptional opportunities.
Malaysia’s engineering sector is undergoing its most significant transformation in a generation. The National Semiconductor Strategy is targeting 60,000 skilled engineers by 2030. The NIMP 2030 smart factory agenda is creating sustained demand for engineers who can design, build, and lead intelligent industrial systems. Globally, the convergence of AI, IoT, automation, and digital engineering is producing a new category of role — the engineering technologist — that requires exactly the depth this Master’s programme develops.
Postgraduate engineering credentials in Malaysia remain rare, making MSc graduates highly competitive across every sector.

Why This Programme Matters
The Reality
- Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy targets 60,000 highly skilled engineers by 2030 against an annual graduate output of approximately 5,000 — a structural shortage that postgraduate engineers are uniquely positioned to fill
- The NIMP 2030 agenda targets 3,000 smart factories by 2030, driving demand for engineers with advanced expertise in automation, IoT, and intelligent systems
- Less than 3% of Malaysia’s engineering workforce holds a postgraduate qualification — MSc graduates operate with very little competition at the senior level
- Global engineering leadership roles increasingly require postgraduate credentials, with organisations across semiconductor, defence, telecommunications, and smart infrastructure actively seeking Master’s-level talent
The Education
This programme is structured around research-based learning with compulsory coursework in Research Methodology, Academic Writing, and Design Thinking. Beyond that, students pursue independent research in their chosen engineering discipline — guided by expert supervisors, anchored in real industry challenges, and assessed through the rigorous standards of international postgraduate examination.
UNIMY’s complete focus on computing and engineering means your research sits at the centre of an institution built entirely around your field.
