Bachelor of Game Development (Game Technology) with Honours

Build the worlds
that billions play in.

The global video game industry generated over USD 184 billion in revenue in 2023 and is projected to surpass USD 300 billion by 2030. Malaysia is an active and growing part of that story — with a government-backed digital creative economy agenda and a rapidly expanding ecosystem of local and international studios. This degree takes you from the foundations of game programming and design through to advanced game engine architecture, AI, 3D development, and production — giving you the full technical and creative toolkit to build, ship, and lead in one of the world’s most exciting industries.

Design the experiences the world will spend billions of hours in.

Future Careers

High-demand skills. Limitless possibilities.

Gaming is no longer just entertainment. It is the foundation of the metaverse, the training ground for AI, the delivery mechanism for education and simulation, and one of the largest creative economies on the planet. Game development skills — real-time rendering, AI programming, physics engines, UX design, and 3D modelling — are transferable across film, defence, healthcare simulation, virtual reality, and spatial computing. Malaysia’s Todak Studios, the success of homegrown studios like Kaigan Games, and the entry of global publishers into Southeast Asia are all signals that the regional games industry is growing fast and needs local talent urgently.

Why This Programme Matters

The Reality

  • The global gaming market is projected to surpass USD 300 billion by 2030, with mobile gaming, cloud gaming, and VR/AR driving the next wave of growth
  • Southeast Asia is the fastest-growing gaming market in the world — Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines are all seeing exponential growth in both players and developers
  • Game development skills are in demand beyond gaming — in defence simulation, medical training, architectural visualisation, film VFX, and the emerging spatial computing ecosystem
  • The Malaysian government’s Creative Economy Master Plan and Digital Economy Blueprint both identify game development and digital creative industries as priority growth sectors

The Education

This is not an arts degree with some coding added on. The curriculum is built around game technology — the deep technical and creative skills that professional studios actually need. Students progress from programming fundamentals and digital illustration in Year 1 through to game AI, engine architecture, and physics in Year 2, finishing with mobile game programming, full game production, and a Final Year Project in Year 3.

Every module is structured around building real games, not just understanding how games are built.

The AI-Native Learning Experience

AI is transforming game development faster than any other force in the industry. Procedural generation, NPC behaviour, adaptive difficulty, real-time rendering optimisation, and generative art tools are all AI-driven — and studios expect graduates to arrive already fluent in these tools and methodologies.

  • Game AI as a Core Module

Game Artificial Intelligence is a dedicated module in Year 2, covering behaviour trees, pathfinding, decision-making, and the integration of machine learning techniques into interactive systems.

  • AI-Powered Creative Tools

Students work with industry-standard AI-assisted tools for 3D modelling, animation, level design, and concept art throughout the programme.

  • Coursera for Campus Access

Students earn microcredentials from IBM, Google, and AWS alongside their degree, building an internationally recognised technical profile from year one.

  • Industry-Grade Facilities

Smart classrooms and game development labs equipped with the latest game engines, rendering tools, and simulation environments give students professional-grade working conditions from day one.
