into a career.

The global gaming industry generates over USD 184 billion a year and is one of the fastest-growing creative and technology sectors on the planet. Malaysia is an active part of that story — with a growing ecosystem of local studios, global publisher interest in Southeast Asia, and a government digital creative economy agenda that names game development as a priority sector. This diploma gives you the hands-on skills to design, build, and launch games across PC, console, and mobile — with real projects, industry tools, and global microcredentials from day one.

Future Careers

High-demand skills. Limitless possibilities.

Southeast Asia is the fastest-growing gaming market in the world. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines are all seeing exponential growth in both players and game developers. The global gaming workforce shortage is real — studios from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles are actively competing for graduates who can programme, design, and produce games at a professional level. Game development skills are also increasingly transferable into film VFX, virtual production, simulation engineering, and the spatial computing platforms being built by Apple, Meta, and Microsoft.

Why This Programme Matters

The Reality

  • The global gaming market is projected to surpass USD 300 billion by 2030, with mobile gaming, cloud gaming, and VR/AR driving the next major growth wave
  • Southeast Asia is the fastest-growing gaming region in the world — Malaysia’s own game development ecosystem includes homegrown studios like Kaigan Games and global esports brand Todak Studios
  • Malaysia’s Creative Economy Master Plan and Digital Economy Blueprint both identify game development as a priority growth sector, with active government support for local studio development
  • Game development skills are in demand beyond gaming — in defence simulation, medical training, architectural visualisation, film VFX, and the emerging spatial computing ecosystem

The Education

This is a build-first diploma. From day one, students work in game development labs equipped with high-spec gaming rigs, 3D design software, motion capture tools, and VR/AR platforms.

The curriculum progresses logically from programming and design fundamentals in Year 1 through to 3D graphics, animation, AI for games, and character design in Year 2, finishing with mobile game programming, full game production and publishing, and a Final Year Project backed by Practical Training.

Every module is structured around producing real, playable work. No prior coding experience is required — the programme is designed to take you from beginner to industry-ready.

The AI-Native Learning Experience

AI is transforming game development at every level — from procedural world generation and NPC behaviour to AI-assisted art creation and adaptive difficulty systems. This diploma integrates AI across the learning experience, with Artificial Intelligence for Game as a dedicated Year 2 core module and AI-powered tools embedded throughout the programme.

  • Artificial Intelligence for Game

A dedicated core module covering behaviour trees, pathfinding, decision-making, and machine learning integration in interactive game systems.

  • Industry Game Engines from Day One

Students work with Unity and Unreal Engine — the two dominant engines in the global games industry — from the first semester, building real fluency with the tools employers expect.

  • Epic Games and Unity Microcredentials

Students are supported toward Epic Games Unreal Engine certifications and Unity Certified User credentials alongside their diploma — at no extra cost.

  • High-Spec Game Development Labs

Purpose-built labs with gaming rigs, 3D design software, motion capture tools, and VR/AR platforms accessible throughout the programme.

  • UNIMY game development lab and AI-native classroom
